HOUSE 6

Indio, CA

In House 6, a single U-shaped 2 foot thick block wall defines a continuous garden space that runs directly through the main living space of the house blending the outdoors with the indoors. Exterior garden walls flow directly indoors through the glass to create non-load bearing partition walls. These walls, that do not touch the ceiling, define the spaces of the kitchen, living room, dining room, and circulation within the air-conditioned portion of the "garden space." Seemingly hovering over this space is the roof plane that rises to the south to the Santa Rosa Mountains and then rises to the north to the private entry courtyard. Flanking each side of the "U" are two volumes, which hold two private bedrooms and a powder room to the east and the master bedroom area, study, hobby room, service areas and garage to the west.
