Hired by Wilson/Johnson Commercial Properties, The Art Office with MKA created a memorable architectural design with the cost-effectiveness and ease of tilt-up concrete construction. In this project, an alternating A-B pattern was established for the concrete tilt-up panels. This patterning, or repetition, was then made to be seemingly random through a varying palette of warm grays, thus breaking down the massing of the building into smaller “panels.” Aluminum fins creating bars of shadow are inserted directly into the two inch reveals running across the face of the building. In plan, the project is split into two buildings separated by an interior street that both accesses the warehouse doors and shields the view of these doors by keeping them on the inside of the property.
