ART SCREENWALL PROPOSAL

Palm Springs, CA

Designed for a modern housing project in Palm Springs, this screen wall seeks to shield views into a corner location of a Department of Water and Power pump site.  The current  7’ high wall composed of concrete block and wrought iron, is far too open and appears to be run-down.  Taking advantage of the visibility of the corner site from a long distance in four directions, TAO used the oblique view to inspire the design.  Creating a flowing fabric-like surface of vertical and horizontal laser-cut steel ribs, the new screen wall is opaque from afar and appears to move, as if blown by the consistent wind coming from the mountain pass nearby.
