Proposed for the corner of Indian Canyon Drive and Sunrise Way in Palm Springs, CA, this sculpture is designed to be a "gateway" public art piece for the City of Palm Springs and for the Avalon residential project, developed by the SunCal Companies. At 16'0" high, the red-orange sunburst marks your arrival into the desert cities. Sunburst was proposed to be sited in two different ways: 1) delicately sitting on its long arms appearing to have been blown along the desert sands or 2) sprouting from the desert floor like a spring flower, its armed, spherical form hovering above the ground. Small LED's mounted within Sunburst would illuminate the tips of the arms at night. The Red Cube was eventually chosen as the public art piece for this highly public location in Palm Springs.
