Built within a 50’ traffic roundabout within SunCal Companies’ Marblehead residential project, Tri-Hex-Circ transforms formally from a triangle at the top to a hexagon at its midpoint to a circle at the base. Constructed from 24 layers of 8” high x 3/8” thick corten steel, Tri-Hex-Circ appears to twist as its geometry transforms, as though it has been affected by the traffic circling around it. Surrounded by a sea of native grasses, the cast shadows play across the surface of the sculpture during the day, while well lights at night dramatically create a strong marker within the project and within the City of San Clemente.
